DRAWING CLASSES Henry Vermillion teaches drawing ("Expressive Drawing") from January through April and June through October at the studio / classroom at Mesones 14 (rear) in San Miguel de Allende. The classes are structured for both beginners and practicing artists, and stress fundamentals (many art schools in the 60's - 80's put little emphasis on fundamental skills, especially drawing). In drawing, the live model is generally used. He teaches how to see as an artist sees, finding and simplifying forms and how to use contour and gesture. Each person is given individual attention and often, individual assignments, according to their aptitudes and needs. Since visitors to San Miguel have varying lengths of stays, each session is somewhat independent and is paid for separately. Classes are usually held Wednesday and Friday, with drawing in the morning 10-1 pm and painting from 3-6 pm. The cost per session is $200 pesos (or $20.00 US) and a discount of 10% is available for advance payment of 3 weeks or more. The classes are structured, but the atmosphere is relaxed and there are tea/coffee breaks and treats. Class size is limited to 10. If there is sufficient interest, watercolor and oil painting classes may be held. Commissioned portraits are also welcome. (click images to view enlarged)

BRITT ZAIST´S WORKSHOP:
EXPERIMENTAL PAINTING IN INK, COLLAGE, ACRYLIC
AND WATERCOLOR - CLASS 1
Britt Zaist creates rich, colorful ink abstractions. She teaches the process in a two-day workshop, which will leave you wanting to go home and make your own creations. Besides demonstrating permanent ink applications, she incorporates methods of working with collage, acrylic and watercolor into her work. On the first day there will be discussion on materials, techniques, theory and composition. A demonstration follows ending with students working with the materials to create five paintings. The second day consists of discussion about the work created and the use of finishing techniques. Students will have the class artwork and printed class information on techniques, etc. to be able to work on their own. Class Hours / Days: Britt Zaist is a life member of the Art Students League of New York City. She studied with Mario Cooper, AWS and Maxine Masterfield, AWS, among others. She is also known for her bold, gestural, sumi-like ink drawings, especially those of animals. She is co-founder of Galeria Izamal, a co-operative art gallery in San Miguel de Allende, México.
Home/Studio: Calle Atascadero, Callejón Sin Salida #14, San Miguel de Allende, GTO. 37700 México. Class #2 available upon request - Email for more information. Below are three examples of work created in these workshops. (click images to view enlarged) |
